The Poppy Family Which Way You Goin' Billy?
"Which Way Y'all Goin' Billy?" was a global, multi-1000000-selling striking single from the Canadian ring The Poppy Family unit. The single, outset released in 1969, was from the album of the same name and was a chart-topping striking in Canada and Ireland. It was also a pregnant hit in other parts of the world, reaching #2 on both the U.S. Cash Box and Billboard pop charts.
The vocal was written by Terry Jacks and the pb song is performed by his wife Susan Jacks. The singer asks her husband Baton where he'due south going, knowing that he is leaving her. She pledges she'll still honey him and stay his married woman.
Chart performance
In the group's native Canada, the single hit #1 on the CANCON singles chart dated 25 Oct 1969.[one] It ranked equally one of the ten biggest singles of the year (at #ix) on the Canadian 'List of Biggest Singles of 1969' chart.[two] In Billboard'due south ranking of the Superlative Hits of 1970, it was listed at #26 for the twelvemonth. Allmusic critic Marking Deming states: "If the '70s were supposed to be about having a squeamish day, "Which Way You lot Goin' Billy?" shows the Poppy Family were ane band waiting for a cloud to absorb out all that abrasive sunshine..."[9]
